Juventus has topped the honours list for years. The club won, among other things, nine titles in a row between 2011-2012 and 2019-2020, a unique run in the history of the competition. A historical caveat belongs with that total: after the Calciopoli scandal, Juventus was stripped of two titles in 2006. The title for the 2004-2005 season was never awarded at all; the 2005-2006 title went instead to Inter, who had finished third that year. The total of 36, which is generally regarded as the official record today, already accounts for that.

Inter and AC Milan follow on the honours list, each with a long tradition of league titles going back to the start of the 20th century. Both Milan clubs have played a leading role in the title race in recent seasons.

How is the title decided?

The national title goes to the team on top of the standings after 38 matchdays. If two teams finish level on points in first place, an extra 90-minute play-off match with no extra time has decided it since the 2022-2023 season, with penalties if the score is still level after 90 minutes. The full explanation of points and tiebreakers is on our page about the Serie A standings.

Inter, who finished the 2025-2026 season as champion, their 21st national title.
