The 2026-2027 calendar in brief
Twenty clubs complete 38 matchdays together in a single regular league. Each team plays every opponent twice, once at home and once away. The season runs from 22-23 August 2026 to 29-30 May 2027, with Torino - AC Milan as the opening fixture.
Most matchdays fall on the weekend, but two midweek matchdays are on the calendar: on 28 October 2026 and on 6 January 2027 (around Epiphany). Around the turn of the year there is an extra break on 26-27 December 2026. The calendar also takes the international breaks for national teams into account. From this season onward, the September and October international windows are merged for the first time into one longer break from 21 September to 6 October 2026 (four matchdays for national teams); after that come two shorter breaks on 9-17 November 2026 and 22-30 March 2027.

How is the Serie A calendar put together?
Well before the first ball is kicked, the Lega Serie A publishes the full calendar. That puzzle takes into account a balanced spread of the top fixtures, the international breaks for national teams, and the European commitments of clubs playing in the Champions League, Europa League or Conference League. A team playing in Europe on a Thursday evening usually gets a bit of extra breathing room over the weekend.
TV broadcasts also help shape the schedule: the rights holders help decide exactly which day and time a match is played. That is why the exact kick-off times are often only confirmed a block of matchdays at a time, even though the match dates and fixtures themselves are set much earlier.
So from the start of the season you know who your favourite team is playing against, but the exact kick-off time can still shift closer to the matchday. Check the current fixture schedule regularly for that reason.
